Essential Oils Uses in Your Home:

  1. Freshen the air in your home. If you use the plug in air fresheners, rather than throw them out when they are empty, reuse them. Make a solution using half water and half your favorite essential oil. You can pull out the wick with a sharp knife. After you have filled up the replacement, put the wick back and shake to mix the oil and water. This is a healthier alternative to the chemicals used by companies to add fragrance to the air freshener. Mix scents as you like.
  2. Freshen your carpets and rugs. Add five to six drops of your favorite essential oils to about a cup of baking soda. Mix. Sprinkle on your carpets and rugs and leave for about 15 to 30 minutes. This is a safe, effective, healthy and economical way to make your home smell great.
  3. Freshen your laundry. Add ten drops of your essential oils to about one tablespoon of baking soda. Mix that thoroughly. When you are done with that, add it to a spray bottle with two cups of water in it. Spray on your freshly washed clothes.
  4. Kill bacteria. ix ten drops of your favorite essential oil with one cup water and spray around your home to get rid of bacteria and add a nice scent. Spray in your toilet and shower (leave and let dry) and disinfect these areas as well.
  5. Freshen with toilet paper and paper towels. Put some essential oils in a paper towel or toilet paper roll for continuous freshening. Put a few drops of your essential oils inside the roll. Every time you use some paper, you will freshen the room.
  6. Keep mice away with peppermint. ix two teaspoons peppermint oil with a cup of water and spray in any areas of your home where you have seen evidence of mice (droppings, the mice themselves). Your cat will appreciate the time away from mouse duty.
  7. Kill mold naturally. Add one teaspoon tea tree oil to one cup of water. Spray on problem areas and let dry. Your mold will not stand a chance against tea tree oil and it smells great.
  8. Use essential oils to get a better night’s sleep. Add ten drops of lavender oil to a cup of water and spray on your sheets. Make sure you spray with a fine mist setting so that you do not leave your sheets feeling damp, just smelling fresh!

They have been used by a number of cultures such as the Chinese, Indians, Egyptians and Greeks. Aromatherapy started becoming popular in the United States in the 1980s. Back in the day they were used for a variety of things like spiritual rituals, therapy and improving hygiene. Today, they are the key ingredients in a number of lotions, candles and beauty products. Many use synthetic versions of essential oil scents.

Using them instead of using commercial products can be more economical and healthier than spraying harsh chemicals around your house.  These are just a few of the things you can do with essential oils in your home.
