Winter is certainly a cold time of year. It is a time to be thankful that we have heating systems to keep us warm despite the frigid temperatures. Heating services are especially crucial the farther north you go. This couldn’t be more true than in the United State’s northernmost town.
In this video, you will learn about the town of Barrow.
Barrow is located about 3,000 miles to the north of California. It is on the northernmost tip of Alaska. The climate here is extremely harsh. The ground never melts entirely and plants only grow to be a few inches tall. Here, the sun won’t set for months at a time. The other part of the year, the sun won’t come up for months at a time. It is a place of extremes. It could be the hottest day of summer in the rest of the states, but be snowing here.
Barrow is also only accessible by planes. All roads stop only miles outside of the town. This is because the roads would be destroyed by the climate. all roads here are dirt roads. Further, nearly all food must be flown in using airplanes. What an unusual place.
