Planning a first date isn’t easy. You want to keep things simple, in the event that it doesn’t go well, like getting a coffee, or a drink. But you also want to do something fun, something memorable. Striking a balance between the two can be pretty tricky.

To help you make better plans beyond the typical, here are a few neat first date ideas.

Go to an Art Event. Art events make for great first dates, even if you’re not typically the artsy type. It’s cultural. It’s local. It’s pretty affordable. It affords the opportunity to have conversations, and supplies plenty of things to talk about. It’s just fun. Best of all, there are always all sorts of art exhibitions going on somewhere close. It could be something folksy, and craftsy, or it could be a modern art event. Check around to see what’s going on.

A Night Picnic. – Who said that picnics had to be a day affair? Clementine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind once said that “Night picnics are different.” What she meant was that they’re more romantic, more dreamy. It’s more comfortable without the sun beating down on you, and with a sky full of stars to look at, it’s even more picturesque.

Go to a Museum. – If it’s too chilly to do something outdoorsy, you can always head inside to a museum. It’s always fun to check out your city’s touristy spots. Just like at the art event, all of the attractions and exhibits will give you plenty to talk about. Plus, exhibits change pretty frequently, so there’s bound to be something different than what you saw the last time you went.

These are just a few of the fun dates you could go on. If you don’t like the idea of going to an art event, a night picnic, or a museum, try to think of something outside of the box. If you know of any other cool date ideas, feel free to share in the comments.
